Just along the A590 from the village you can visit the Elizabethan mansion at Levens Hall with its extraordinary topiary garden. You could take time out for a leisurely stroll along the coast at Edwardian Grange-over-Sands or drive over the fell to Cartmel with its ancient priory church and Britain's smallest racecourse. Of course all the magnificent Lakes and fells of the National Park are within easy reach.
